If you’d like the chance to work outdoors in an important hands-on role, you’ll enjoy the Cable Jointer apprenticeship. Working in small teams, you’ll look after the underground cables that are an integral part of our electricity network. It’s a great career choice and your skills will be in-demand, so you’ll find plenty of opportunities open to you.
During your apprenticeship you’ll learn the highly specialised skills needed for joining power cables. You’ll work on both low and high voltage power cables and learn a variety of jointing and terminating techniques for underground electrical distribution and communication cables.
Your work experience will involve:
- Repairs and maintenance of cables
- Installing new underground cable infrastructure
- Installing and maintaining public lighting systems
- Jointing and termination of cables in substations
- Emergency work
Your apprenticeship will also include time at TAFE, where you’ll complete a Certificate III to become a qualified Cable Jointer. You’ll also gain a truck licence and become skilled in the operation of plant and equipment associated with your role.
Ausgrid is a Registered Training Organisation and Certificate III in ESI - Cable Jointing (UET30409) is a nationally recognised qualification, accredited by the Vocational Education and Training Accrediation Board (VETAB).
