Mechanical Trade - Apprenticeships

Within the mechanical trades you have three choices. Whatever your interest or skills, there’s plenty on offer and you’ll also get a truck licence.

Motor Mechanic

Interested in what goes on under the bonnet? Then this is the apprenticeship for you. You’ll learn how various systems and components operate, as well as how to maintain, test, diagnose, repair and overhaul them. Once qualified, you’ll get to work on a wide range of motors used in our industry and use your practical skills to fix and maintain heavy vehicles.

Mechanical Fitter/Machinist

Want to build your skills and knowledge in a wide range of mechanical applications? During this apprenticeship you’ll discover how to operate a variety of machines to custom build or repair metal work - special components that are used on Ausgrid's network that can’t be bought or easily obtained. You’ll become skilled at processes including turning, boring, milling, planing, shaping, slotting, grinding and drilling.

Vehicle Body Builder

This is a great apprenticeship if you’re interested in building, repairing and customising motor vehicles. You’ll learn how to interpret technical drawings, build vehicle bodies from scratch, and gain useful skills in welding and fabrication. When you’ve graduated you’ll be able to work on everything from simple plant trailers to multi-million dollar mobile generators.
