How does the Cadetship work?

Years 1 to 3:

  • Full time study at one of our nominated universities
  • Work at Ausgrid for two weeks in the University break between Semesters 1 and 2
  • Full time work experience at Ausgrid during the University summer vacation

Year 4:

  • Defer University study for 12 months
  • Full time work experience at Ausgrid – comprising two six-month placements

Year 5: 

  • Return to University to undertake an industry-based thesis project
  • Work at Ausgrid for two weeks in the University break between Semesters 1 and 2

Who are we looking for?

You should be completing your HSC this year with strong academic results: 

  • Anticipated ATAR of 90 or above
  • Strong results in Physics and Extension 1 Maths (minimum)

Or, you may currently be completing the first year of a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree at University, with a credit average or above.

In addition to a strong academic record we also look for evidence of: 

  • Leadership and team work
  • Communication skills
  • Self-motivation
  • Innovation

The Cadetship is open to all Australian citizens or permanent residents who qualify to enter the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the following universities:

  • The University of New South Wales
  • The University of Newcastle
  • The University of Sydney
  • University of Technology Sydney
