Graffiti vandalism, or `tagging’, is often a problem in urban areas, and many homes and businesses are targeted by graffiti vandals. In addition, pieces of community infrastructure, such as Ausgrid’s electricity substations or other assets, can also be subjected to graffiti vandalism.
Ausgrid aims to keep its network assets free of graffiti vandalism and our policy is to remove graffiti vandalism from substations or other assets within seven working days of it being reported.
However, if the graffiti vandalism is offensive and in close proximity to a school or church, Ausgrid aims to remove it as soon as possible after we have been notified.
The above timeframes may be extended due to restricted access, poor weather conditions or other reasons beyond Ausgrid’s control.
If you see graffiti vandalism on Ausgrid property near your home or business, for safety reasons, it is important that you do not try and remove it yourself.
Ausgrid has trained and experienced teams for removing graffiti from our substations and other electrical equipment.

- Street address (including nearest cross street)
- Type of vandalism
- Whether the nature of the graffiti is offensive
- If possible, the asset number or type of electrical equipment.
Graffiti vandalism is a crime
Graffiti is a form of vandalism and is punishable by penalties that include community service, fines up to $2,200 or up to six months jail.
