Connection services and offers

What we do

When we receive your connection application, we identify the connection services you’ll need.  We offer basic and standard connection services, depending on whether the network needs to be extended or its capacity increased (augmented). Our basic services involve little or no network augmentation. Our standard services are needed when the network has to be augmented in order to provide you with a reliable electricity supply.

Within 10 business days of receiving your connection application, we will send you a connection offer, which describes the services we provide, and contains the terms and conditions of a connection contract that applies to our connection services. You will have 45 business days to accept the offer.  The contract terms included in the offer then come into effect as a connection contract between the connection customer and Ausgrid. To save time, you can skip the offer and acceptance steps by requesting an expedited connection on your application form and indicating that an offer in the form of a model standing offer appropriate to your connection requirements will be acceptable.  If Ausgrid agrees that you have nominated an appropriate model standing offer, the connection contract commences on the date we receive your connection application.

We have a number of model standing offers outlining our basic and standard connection services. If we do not have a model standing offer appropriate for your connection, we will negotiate a connection offer. Even though we may offer basic or standard connection services appropriate to your connection requirements, you can also choose to negotiate a connection offer.

IMPORTANT : Please note that Ausgrid's Connection Policy - Connection Charges for 2016/17 is now published and these new rates apply from 1st July 2016.

Basic connection services

Ausgrid does not do the actual physical work of establishing the connection between the existing electricity network and your new or altered electrical installation or micro embedded generating unit.  This connection work is done as a contestable service by an ASP2 of your choice, who will also install the meter.  The licensed electrical contractor who installs or alters the electrical installation or installs the micro embedded generating unit may also be an ASP2.  If he or she is not, you will need to retain both an ASP2 and a licensed electrical contractor.

The services Ausgrid provides include the tasks involved in receiving and assessing your connection application, making a connection offer, recording the connection in our data bases once it has been made and checking that your installation and the connection to the network are safe and fit for purpose.  We also provide one or more meters if your ASP2, accredited metering provider or electrical contractor orders the meter or meters from us.

We have three offers of basic connection services. Click on the links below for more information.

You can also find all of our offers on our model standing offers page.

Standard connection services

Where some network augmentation has to be done before your property can be connected, our standard connection services are required.  We offer different standard connection services, depending on whether the energy laws require you or us to fund the augmentation costs and whether the physical augmentation works are designed and constructed by us or designed by an Accredited Service Provider Level 3 and constructed by an Accredited Service Provider Level 1 (both of whom will be retained and paid by you).

We have four model standing offers for standard connection services. Click on the links below for more information.

You can find them in our model standing offers page
Note that Ausgrid does not currently have a  model standing offer for connection of non-micro Embedded Generators. These connections are negotiated. More information is available from the embedded generation page.
