Over the past three years, Ausgrid has tested more than 270,000 meters and 99.9 percent were found to be accurate.
All electricity meters must be accuracy tested by the manufacturer before they are installed. The meter must also comply with the National Electricity Rules, National Measurements Act and relevant Australian Standards. Ausgrid also carries out random accuracy checks to make sure the meters are in good working order and record customer usage accurately.
Customers can also request to have their meter tested at any time.
Any meter found to be inaccurate is immediately replaced and the customer reimbursed if required.
The accuracy of Ausgrid’s meter data, our processing of this data, and our meter asset management program is audited and approved every year by the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO).
