Power for a new home, building or development
If you are constructing a new home, building or development within our network distribution area, you will need to connect to our electricity network.
Depending on the size, location and additional electrical load required by the development, our electricity network may need to be extended or upgraded to increase its capacity. Under government regulated guidelines, customers/builders/developers are required to fund the cost of the dedicated network assets necessary for the connection.
Any work to design or construct assets for a customer-funded connection is known as ‘contestable work’, which gives the customer the right to choose any appropriately qualified service provider accredited with the Department of Trade and Investment.
Installation of the dedicated underground or overhead service line from the street to the new premises and installation of dedicated electricity metering is also contestable and you may choose an accredited service provider to do the work.
Please refer to the the guide titled 'Getting Connected' to the electricity network for more information on the process of connecting to Ausgrid's electricity network.
How do you get started?
The first step is to notify us of your requirements as soon as possible by completing an Application For Connection Form (ES1- Form A).
If the installation is one of the following types you must also complete and attach a Supplementary Application For Connection Form (ES1 - Form B):
- new electrical work over 20kW
- services greater than 100 amps
- CT metered installations
- new high voltage installations and additions to existing high voltage installations exceeding 100kW
- multiple living developments (more than six units)
- installations located in rural or outlying areas
- locations where the proposed equipment may cause excessive fluctuation of voltage, such as welders, x-ray machines
- embedded generators including solar buy-back connections
The Application For Connection and Supplementary Application For Connection can be lodged online using Ausgrid's new Electronic Form Centre.
Once you have submitted the appropriate forms, we will review your requirements, and one of our representatives will liaise with you directly regarding the job.
