Ausgrid has provided support to national food rescue organisation OzHarvest to help feed families doing it tough this holiday season.

The organisation has donated $25,000 to OzHarvest to support their 100 Million Meal Appeal to help deliver its 100 millionth rescued meal to hungry Australians before Christmas.

CEO Richard Gross said Ausgrid’s support of OzHarvest reflects Ausgrid’s genuine desire to ‘give back’ to the communities it serves.

“We know the holidays can be very hard for a lot of families and this is a modest gesture to help improve their lives,” said Richard.

Ausgrid employees are also contributing to a food drive, collecting non-perishables at major depots ahead of December 25.

“It’s an opportunity for us to do something for the vulnerable in our communities and at the same time we are helping OzHarvest to highlight the major issues of food waste, hunger and homelessness,” he said.

Ausgrid’s donation of $25,000 equates to the provision of 50,000 meals to people in need.

OzHarvest CEO and Founder Ronni Kahn said the donation would help deliver much needed meals at a critical time of year.

“This is a huge milestone for OzHarvest and we need to raise $1 million by Christmas to help get millions of nourishing meals to those who need it most. Ausgrid’s generous donation has given the appeal a great boost and we would love other organisations to support this campaign by donating online at 100 Million Meal Appeal,” said Ronni.
