Connections

Connection contracts

For a new or modified connection to our network, you must have a contract with us that covers the connection. For most customers, the terms and conditions of this contract will be one of our ‘model standing offers’. A model standing offer includes Australian Energy Regulator (AER) approved terms and conditions.

If one of our model standing offers does not suit your connection needs or they are complex, you will need to negotiate a contract with us. For example, no model standing offer covers a non-micro embedded generator. However, anyone is entitled to negotiate a contract with us.

If you wish to negotiate a contract with us, you must follow our connection negotiation process.

Basic connection services

Our model standing offers for a basic connection service cover any connection that involves no or minimal changes our network, before the connection can be made and electrified, because our network is sufficient to meet the connection’s requirements safely.

Basic Connection Services – up to 100 Amps Connections Low Voltage

Use this model standing offer when you apply for a new or modified connection with a maximum capacity of 100 Amps.

Basic Connection Services – Connections over 100 Amps

Use this model standing offer when you apply for a new or modified connection with a maximum capacity above 100 Amps.

Basic Connection Services – Micro Embedded Generation Connection

Use this model standing offer when you apply to connect a micro embedded generator with a capacity of up to 10 kW, such as roof-mounted solar panels, and the generator complies with AS/NZ 4777 – 2005 Grid Connection of Energy Systems via Inverters.

Standard connection services

Our model standing offers for a standard connection service cover any connection that involves changes to our network before the connection can be made and electrified. Which one we use depends on whether the law requires you or Ausgrid to fund the changes and to design and construct the physical augmentation work. ‘Augmentation work’ means to add or modify infrastructure to the network or increase the capacity of the network to distribute electricity.

If your connection involves a non-micro embedded generator you will need to negotiate a contract with us, as we haven’t a model standing offer to cover this yet.

Standard Connection Services – Ausgrid Off-site Augmentation Works

Use this model standing offer  when you apply to modify a connection, and we must:

  • design and construct all augmentation works at cost (our charges are regulated)
  • construct the augmentation works off-site from your premises.

Standard Connection Services – Ausgrid Augmentation (Substation Upgrade) Works

Use this model standing offer when you apply to modify a connection, and:

  • an existing substation or substations on your premises will provide the appropriate capacity for the connection
  • the augmentation works will include increasing the capacity of one or more on-site substations and associated network infrastructure we must design and construct all augmentation works at cost.

Standard Connection Services – Contestable ASP/1 Premises Connections No Greater than 11 kV

Use this model standing offer when you are responsible for organising the design and construction of the changes, and:

  • shared parts of Ausgrid’s network have to be augmented
  • you must make a capital contribution to the cost of the augmentation works – this includes the connection infrastructure to your premises
  • you must hire an Accredited Service Provider (ASP) Level 3 to design the changes, and then they must get Ausgrid to certify the design
  • you must hire an ASP1 to construct or install the augmentation works.

Once the new network infrastructure has been electrified, Ausgrid becomes the owner of the infrastructure and is responsible for operating and maintaining it.
