Motorists and pedestrians are being urged to plan ahead for disruptions in the Sydney CBD for essential upgrades to parts of the city’s electrical supply from this weekend.
Ausgrid has been working closely with Transport for NSW to plan this work and minimise disruption.
Ausgrid is replacing aged infrastructure to improve the safety and reliability of the infrastructure supplying electricity to the CBD. New 11,000 volt underground electricity cables are being installed in Macquarie and College Streets. Full details are below.
In order to complete this work as quickly as possible and minimise ongoing disruption for residents and businesses we will be working extended hours over the next three weekends from Friday April 12 until Monday 29 April, with further weekends to be scheduled following road occupancy approvals.
Typically, work will continue 24 hours non-stop from 8pm on Friday nights until 5am on Mondays morning and we will have multiple teams working in shifts to get the work done. We will make every effort to complete noisy work by midnight.
Over the Easter weekend, we will work from 8pm on Thursday 18 April until 5am on Tuesday 23 April 2019, weather permitting.
Details of the work schedule are as follows:
From 8pm on Friday 12 April to 5am Monday 15 April, multiple crews will work in shifts at three locations on Macquarie Street at the Law Courts, Martin Place intersection and Hunter Street intersections.
From 8pm on Thursday 18 April to 5am Tuesday 23 April, multiple crews will work in shifts on Macquarie Street at the Law Courts and Hunter Street intersection and on College Street at the Liverpool Street and Park Street intersections.
From 8pm on Friday 26 April to 5am Monday 29 April, multiple crews will work in shifts on College Street at the Liverpool Street intersection.
Traffic control will be in place to assist road users and pedestrians to move around the work areas safely.
There will be some temporary parking restrictions to allow traffic flow along Macquarie and College Street. Access to driveways will be maintained, unless arrangements are made with you in advance.
Electricity supply will not be interrupted as part of this work. For information related to the project visit our website at www.ausgrid.com.au/easternCBD
