Ausgrid supporting farmers in the Hunter

Ausgrid is responding to the drought crisis impacting farmers in its footprint, by transporting and supplying hay to three local properties in Muswellbrook today.

The gesture follows Ausgrid’s decision to support an employee campaign, matching their donations dollar-for-dollar, as part of Rural Aid’s Buy a Bale program.

As part of our contribution Ausgrid sent two of the company’s semi-trailers to Mullumbimby in the state’s north to pick up and transport the hay back to the Hunter.

Ausgrid’s Independent Chairman Dr Helen Nugent, CEO Richard Gross and Local Member for the Upper Hunter Michael Johnsen MP were on hand as the trucks arrived at West Muswellbrook this morning.

Mr Gross said farmers are the backbone of the rural communities Ausgrid serves.

“I was a farmer during the drought of 1982 and I know first-hand just how tough it is to keep going in these conditions and we want to let our farmers know they aren’t on their own.

“I’m proud that our people are contributing to the Buy a Bale program and Ausgrid will be matching those employee donations dollar-for-dollar”, Mr Gross said.

The hay will be distributed to three adjoining farms which were selected by Rural Aid based on critical need.

Rural Aid’s Gary Bentley said donations of hay, food and household items are still greatly needed in Hunter communities.

“Rural Aid is also providing counselling to our farmers and their families throughout this drought and we appreciate Ausgrid’s support at this time,” he said.
