Upgraded Rozelle substation to power future growth

26 June, 2020

Critical work is continuing across the electricity network during the COVID-19 pandemic, including a major upgrade of Ausgrid’s Rozelle substation which helps provide a safe and reliable power supply to Sydney’s CBD and Sydney Trains.

The substation is being upgraded to create connection points for new customers and to support future infrastructure in the area, including the WestConnex Rozelle Interchange and Sydney Metro West.

The project has passed a significant milestone with the completion of civil construction works on a new switchroom building at the substation.

Construction began in August 2019 in conjunction with our contractor partner Diona and the project is being delivered on time and on budget.

Ausgrid is continuing to do this type of critical work across some parts of the grid during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure we can secure power supply to customers and essential services; continue to support vital economic activity; and also meet critical infrastructure requirements in NSW.

Work on this critical project was able to continue during the COVID-19 pandemic with extra health safeguards in place

The final design of the new switchroom building was selected based on feedback from the local community and features brick cladding which blends in with other buildings in the area.

With the building and associated civil works now complete work will begin to install new electrical equipment inside the substation.

A second transformer bay will be built on the site in 2021 to cater for growing demand from customers.
