Bright Spark - Apprentice & Trainee Program 2019

Commencing January 2019, Ausgrid is offering a number of Electrotechnology Apprenticeships and Business Traineeships across the Sydney East and South West and Hunter regions of New South Wales.

Ausgrid is an energy services business that operates the largest electricity network in Australia. We deliver a safe and reliable electricity supply to more than 1.7 million homes and businesses in parts of Sydney, the Central Coast and the Hunter regions of New South Wales.

Our electricity network connects communities across more than 22,000 square kilometers. It includes almost 50,000 kilometers of powerlines, more than 230 major substations and 31,000 distribution substations.

Our customers range from residential and rural properties to small businesses and large multinational corporations in industries such as manufacturing, mining, shipping, engineering, tourism and agriculture. Our operations include infrastructure construction and maintenance, customer connections, street lighting and metering and testing services.

During your apprenticeship or traineeship you will receive practical job related training and support as well as paid leave to attend training with an RTO.

As an electrical apprentice, you will learn how to:

  • install, maintain, repair, test, commission and diagnose and rectify faults in electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear and control systems;
  • look after and maintain poles and overhead and underground infrastructure;
  • work on light, power and data circuits.

Once you have successfully completed the apprenticeship you will receive a Certificate III in Electrotechnology and will become trade qualified as a licensed electrician. Throughout your apprenticeship, Ausgrid will provide cross skilling opportunities across other power worker trades such as lineworker, cable jointer and technicians.

This apprenticeship is for anyone who is good at problem solving and using their mathematical mind.
