Hunters Hill zone substation project

 Hunters Hill

Ausgrid is upgrading the Hunters Hill zone substation located on Pittwater Road and Cambridge Street in Gladesville.

Project need

Ausgrid is modernising the Hunters Hill zone substation to meet the increasing demand for electricity, further improve the reliability of supply for customers and to replace existing equipment that is ready to be retired.

Project status

Construction progress

  • Ausgrid has completed work on the new substation building that fronts Cambridge Street.
  • The roof of the old substation building that fronts Pittwater Road has now been replaced.
  • Remaining work includes replacing electrical equipment known as switchgear in the old building facing Pittwater Road and associated activities.

Project approval process

Ausgrid is the approving authority for these works under the NSW Environmental Planning & Assessment Act. As part of the planning and approval process Ausgrid prepared an environmental assessment and liaised with councils and other authorities. The environmental assessment considered input from the community, council and other relevant authorities.

Community consultation

Community information displays were held during the planning stage for this project. Interested members of the community were encouraged to discuss the concept designs for the new substation building and provide feedback. Ausgrid welcomes any comments or questions at any time during the project (see contact details at right).

What to expect during construction

Like any construction work, this project has involved noise and dust, and potential temporary traffic and parking disruptions near to the substation, which we have worked to minimise as much as possible. Ausgrid recognises the duration of the various works on our Hunters Hill substation has caused some inconvenience to the local community and we thank you for your ongoing patience.

Construction hours

Normal construction hours are between 7am and 6pm on weekdays and between 8am and 1pm on Saturdays. Work may occasionally be planned outside of these hours, such as to meet traffic requirements for large delivery vehicles. Ausgrid will notify neighbours in advance of any work planned after normal construction hours.
