Like any construction work of this nature, the project will involve noise and dust and temporary traffic and parking disruptions, which we would work to reduce as much as possible.
Construction will generally include:
- site investigations to locate existing services and assess ground conditions
- digging trenches to lay conduits (plastic pipes) to hold the new cables
- filling trenches and resurfacing the area temporarily. Trenching and resurfacing will take a few weeks outside each property depending on ground and weather conditions
- excavating underground joint bays and existing pit extensions at various locations along the route in the road to feed in and join cables together. Work on the joint bays and pits usually occurs in distinct stages
- feeding in and joining the cables
- final restoration of work areas. This is completed in consultation with local councils and relevant authorities either as sections of work during the projects or once the overall project is finished.
Out of hours / extended hours work
Due to the type of work required and the high traffic volumes in the CBD, extended work hours may be required in some locations to complete the work as quickly as possible. This may include:
- Extended day and night work during some of the Christmas holiday period on Macquarie Street and the College Street/Liverpool Street intersection.
- Partial closures of major intersections or sections of road over a full weekend to work extended day and night hours.
Residents and businesses would be contacted individually if extended work hours are proposed in these areas. We would provide further information with details including how this may reduce the time needed to complete the work and the proposed timing of the work. Alternatively, you can contact Ausgrid at any time to discuss the project.
