The 33,000 volt powerlines which supply electricity to the Merriwa zone substation are being replaced to make sure we can continue to provide a safe and reliable electricity supply to about 1400 home and business connections in and around Merriwa town. Some poles are also being replaced.
The high voltage powerlines run between Denman and Merriwa and were installed in the 1960s. They have served the area well, but now need to be replaced to make sure we can continue to provide a safe and reliable electricity supply to the area.
Work to replace 48 kilometers of powerline is ongoing and being completed in sections.
To do this work safely, the power supply to the Merriwa zone substation needs to be turned off. In turn, this interrupts the supply to homes and businesses in and around Merriwa. For this reason, the majority of work is being completed on Sundays or during school holidays, so disruption is minimised.
Crews have completed work roughly between Denman and Sandy Hollow.
Work dates are weather permitting and affected customers will be notified of ahead of the necessary power interruptions.
