Training

Ausgrid’s training group provides a range of company specific and nationally recognised training courses. All national units of competency (Non-Ausgrid specific training) must be undertaken with a registered training organisation (RTO) and the specific unit of competency must be on their scope of registration.

Authorisation qualification and training matrix

Minimum mandatory training

Requirements for all Individuals who are required to work on or near Ausgrid's network.

Ausgrid’s Electrical Safety Rules (ESRs)
Ausgrid’s Environmental Procedures (NS174)
HLTAID001 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
UETTDRRF06B: Perform rescue from a live LV panel
UETTDRRF09B: Apply access procedures to work on or near electrical network infrastructure
UETTDRRF10B: Provide first aid in an ESI environment
CPCCOHS1001A:  SafeWork NSW General Construction Induction (White Card)

 

Additional mandatory training - overhead mains

Requirements for all individuals who are required to work in the vicinity of overhead mains.

UETTDRRF02B: Provide Pole Top Rescue
Mandatory if an individual is required to conduct or observe work in the vicinity of overhead mains from a ladder or pole
UETTDRRF03B: Provide EWP Rescue
Mandatory if an individual is required to conduct or observe work in the vicinity of overhead mains utilising an EWP
UETTDRRF08B: Provide EWP Escape (CDD)
Mandatory if an individual is required to conduct work in the vicinity of overhead mains utilising an EWP
UETTDREL14A /UETTDREL16A or NS209: Working safely near live electrical apparatus
Mandatory if an individual is required to operate or observe crane and plant (Including an EWP) operating in the vicinity of overhead mains

 

Additional mandatory training - underground mains

Requirements for all individuals who are required to work in the vicinity of underground mains.

Ausgrid’s SC1100A: Safe work near underground assets

Ausgrid’s TTDU 2170: Pit awareness - Mandatory if an individual is required to work within Ausgrid pits or vaults

 

General

  • contractors should refer to the training requirements detailed in their respective authorisation contract
  • ASP/1s Refer to Annexure B - ASP1 Individual competency requirements
  • ASP/2s Refer to Annexure H - ASP2 Individual Competency Requirements
  • training undertaken  within 12 months of the training expiry date (i.e. within 24 months since last training) will only be required to undertake refresher training, whilst training which has lapsed for longer than 12 months of the training expiry date, will require the individual to retake full initial training.

 

Notes

  • only an electrically qualified person is eligible to complete UETTDREL16A Working safely near live electrical apparatus
  • a non-electrically qualified person can complete UETTDREL14A Working safely near live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker
  • individuals deemed to be electrically qualified i.e. electricians, cable jointers and line workers, only need to complete the appropriate training once
  • for individuals deemed non-electrically qualified i.e. apprentices, contestable works assistants and NBN workers, the appropriate training needs to be refreshed annually
  • individuals that have previously completed training in 5099, ISSC26 or NS209 will be grandfathered. Where required, all refresher training must be in accordance with the associated relevant national units of competency listed. 

Ausgrid aligned training

  • Ausgrid aligned training delivered by Ausgrid accredited Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) will be accepted by Ausgrid for authorisation purposes
  • Ausgrid will not recognise Ausgrid aligned training provided by any company who is not accredited by Ausgrid at the time of training delivery.

Electrical Safety Rules

Please note that all initial ESR training must be delivered by Ausgrid’s training group. 

  • ASP/1s must undertake annual ESR refresher training only through Ausgrid’s training group
  • ASP/2s may choose either Ausgrid or one of the indicated accredited 3rd party RTOs as listed below.

Close Approach Vegetation Control

The following table is provided to Ausgrid’s vegetation management contractors to help identify registered training organisations (RTOs) who are currently accredited by Ausgrid to deliver company aligned Close Approach Vegetation Control (CAVC) training.
