Ausgrid supports St George Men’s Shed to put safety first
St George Men’s Shed is an integral part of the St George district community and is now set to become an even more supportive place for its members.
Ausgrid’s Group Executive, Market Development & Strategy, Tim Jarratt said grants are one important way Ausgrid is helping communities in our network.
“By providing funding, we’re not just talking about our commitment to community and sustainability — we are actively investing in it,” he said.
The Men’s Shed is one of 22 great local charities, volunteer groups, sports teams and organisations who have been awarded one of Ausgrid’s Grants for Good.
St George Men’s Shed President John Busuttil said community group was formed in 2011, and its members meet weekly to support one another whilst sharing and learning skills including wood turning, leather work and computer skills.
The $2,500 grant will allow our shed located on Carwar Avenue to improve lighting conditions by converting existing lights to LED tubes, improving safety.
“If you have skills or hobbies that you would like to share with other men in your local community, the St George Men’s shed would like to hear from you.”
Ausgrid has awarded 12 electrification grants of up to $15,000 and 10 grassroots grants of up to $5000.
The St George Men’s Shed upgrades align with Ausgrid’s Grants for Good criteria:
- Community – projects that strengthen connections in the community and bring people together.
- Safety – projects that support the safety and wellbeing of the communities we work in.
The judges considered over 200 applications and the calibre of applications for Ausgrid’s Grants for Good was exceptionally high, making the selection process incredibly challenging.
Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to everyone who nominated.
