Electrical emergencies
An electrical emergency is any situation where electricity poses a risk to the safety of you and your environment. Fallen powerlines, damaged electrical equipment, electric shocks and power outages are all electrical emergencies.
Electric shocks
It's important to remember that experiencing a shock or tingle is an electrical emergency, and that the situation could be life-threatening. If you are in a life-threatening situation call Triple Zero (000) straight away.
- In the event of an electric shock do not attempt to touch or rescue a person until the power has been cut off and the situation has been made safe by a suitably qualified person. People who are in contact with an electrical source are conductors of electricity until the power is turned off.
- If you receive a shock from a tap or metal object inside or outside your home call Ausgrid on 13 13 88 (24hrs) to report it. Read more about shocks and tingles.
