Help planning your connection

We’re here to help you understand what’s needed, what it might cost, and what to do next so your project stays on track.

When should I ask Ausgrid for help?

If your project is more complex, or you need clearer guidance before applying, you can ask us for help early.

Customers often contact us when they:

  • Are planning a new build or major upgrade
  • Are developing land and want to understand connection costs
  • Are buying a property and need to know what’s involved to connect it
  • Are considering changes to existing power infrastructure
  • Aren’t sure what type of connection they need

Early conversations can help avoid delays and unexpected costs later.

A preliminary enquiry is a way to ask Ausgrid specific questions about your project before you submit a full application.

It can help you understand:

  • What type of connection you may need
  • Whether upgrades are likely
  • What steps may be involved
  • Expected timeframes

Many customers ask their electrician or project consultant to submit the enquiry for them.

Apply for a Preliminary enquiry

In most cases:

  • We’ll review your enquiry and respond in writing
  • Some enquiries may require a site visit
  • We may contact you to discuss next steps

We aim to respond within 10 business days, depending on the complexity of your request.

There is a fee for most preliminary enquiries. These fees are set by the energy regulator.

If we need to inspect your site or provide a detailed response, we’ll let you know the cost before proceeding.
