NS187
Passive Fire Mitigation Design of Major Substations
NS187: Passive Fire Mitigation Design of Major Substations
Passive Fire Mitigation Design of Major Substations. For issue to all Ausgrid and Accredited Service Providers’ staff involved with the design of Major substations.
Scope
This Network Standard provides the minimum requirements for passive fire protection systems at Ausgrid’s major substations, as well as the minimum requirements for personnel safety and emergency egress in the event of fire.
The minimum requirements for active fire systems at Ausgrid’s substations are provided in Technical Guide T0059.
This Standard applies to new sub-transmission substations, zone substations and switching stations.
This Standard does not include fire protection provisions for equipment located outside of major substations
such as:
- kiosk substations (refer to NS141);
- pole top equipment such as transformers, capacitors and reclosers; and
- chamber substations (refer to NS113).
Where this Network Standard is to be applied to proposed works within an existing substation, Ausgrid Engineering will provide further site-specific recommendations on the type and extent of passive fire protection to be applied.
