NS208.2.2
Telecommunications Substations - Communications Cabinet Interconnectivity
NS208.2.2: Telecommunications Substations - Communications Cabinet Interconnectivity, January 2017
Defines the connectivity to be deployed when designing optical fibre systems in substations and depots, with NS208 forming a family of documents detailing the design and configuration of communications panels and associated equipment.
Scope
This Network Standard specifically excludes:
- Installation of third party optical cables
- Installation of external infrastructure (ie optical cables outside the substation boundary)
- Interconnectivity between panels encompassed in this Network Standard, which are designed
with high redundancy due to the number of protection schemes which may be carried on a
duplex fibre.
This Network Standard does not presently encompass all use cases and has presently been written to accommodate IEC61850 installations and substation yard installations. Future revisions will address more use cases. This Network Standard presently addresses star network topology for
IEC61850 networks.
This Network Standard does not address existing infrastructure, but allows for infrastructure that can be installed alongside existing. There is no requirement (unless there are other drivers) to retrospectively upgrade existing infrastructure to comply with this Network Standard.
