LV HRC Fuse Asbestos Product Guide

NS211 Annexure G - LV HRC Fuse Asbestos Product Guide

The aim of the guide is to assist staff to easily identify asbestos containing LV HRC Fuses and the Safety Instructions for dealing with them.

Scope

As part of Ausgrid’s ongoing asbestos maintenance program, independent Licenced Asbestos Assessors have identified Low Voltage HRC fuses of various types as potentially asbestos containing.

Low voltage HRC fuses of various ratings are used throughout the distribution network and may be present in chamber substations, kiosk substation and other network locations.

The asbestos material is normally fully enclosed within the fuse body and asbestos fibres are not able to be released unless the fuse body is breached. The independent report indicates that "there is no elevated risk exposure to asbestos fibres from within fully intact undamaged HRC fuses".

The aim of the guide is to assist staff to easily identify asbestos containing LV HRC Fuses and the Safety Instructions for dealing with them.
