ASP and contractor training requirements
Check the minimum mandatory training requirements for electrical trades and construction workers working on or near the Ausgrid network.
There are minimum mandatory training requirements for all individuals who are required to work on, or near Ausgrid’s network. Training requirements for External Partners are defined in their specific contracts. However, the Minimum Mandatory Training listed below can provide some guidance on expected training requirements.

ASP/1 ESR mandatory training for authorisation
Minimum mandatory training required for all ASP/1 authorisations:
- Ausgrid’s Electrical Safety Rules ( UETTDRRF01)
- Ausgrid Authorisation Session (eLearn course)
- I0102 - Ausgrid - Environmental Awareness
- HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- UETDRRF004 - Perform rescue from a live LV panel

Notes
- All ASP2s must complete their initial Ausgrid Electrical Safety Rules (ESR) training with Ausgrid’s Training Group. After the initial training, the annual refresher training required is “UETTDRRF01B - Apply ESI safety rules, codes of practice and procedures for work on or near electrical apparatus”, which can be completed with Ausgrid’s Training Group or a RegisteredTraining Organisation (RTO) approved to deliver the Ausgrid aligned training.
- When ASP2s attend their initial Ausgrid Electrical Safety Rules (ESR) training they will also complete Ausgrid’s Environment Procedures (NS174) training. ASP2s are not required to complete an annual refresher in Ausgrid’s I0102 - Ausgrid - Environmental Awareness training.

ASP/3 Training
Ausgrid’s ES4 Accredited Service Provider Authorisation (Annexure D) outlines the Ausgrid network authorisation requirements for an Accredited Service Provider ASP/3 and its workers to provide Level 3 contestable design work and to comply with Ausgrid cyber security and network information security requirements. FAQs
When is refresher training required?
Refresher training is required when training is completed within 12 months of the training expiry date (i.e. within 24 months since last training)An individual must re-do the full initial training if their last training is more than 24 months old.
Are my existing qualifications for 5099, ISSC26 and NS209 still valid?
Individuals that have previously completed training in 5099, ISSC26 or NS209 will be grandfathered. Where required, all refresher training must be in accordance with the associated relevant national units of competency listed.
Can non-electrically qualified individuals take UETDREL005 - Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus?
No. Only an electrically qualified individual is eligible to complete “UETDREL005 - Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus.
Can non-electrically qualified individuals take UETDREL006 - Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker?
Yes. Non-electrically qualified individual can complete “UETDREL006 - Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker” as a non-electrical worker.
Ausgrid aligned training
Electrical Safety Rules
Only Ausgrid aligned training delivered by Ausgrid accredited Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) will be accepted by Ausgrid for ASP2 authorisation purposes.
Ausgrid will not recognise Ausgrid aligned training provided by any company who is not accredited by Ausgrid at the time of training delivery.
