The contestable connection process

Some new or upgraded electricity connections are more complex and need extra work on the electricity network. 

These projects are usually designed and built by accredited electrical service providers, with Ausgrid overseeing safety and quality. 

When does this process apply?

You’ll follow this process if your project:

  • Needs upgrades to the electricity network
  • Involves moving or extending existing power infrastructure
  • Is larger or more complex than a standard connection

The process

We review your application

Once you submit your connection application:

  • We check whether network upgrades are needed
  • We may ask for more information
  • For larger projects, you’ll be given access to our online Connections Portal so you can follow progress

We aim to review complete applications within 10 business days 

Who’s involved?

For these projects, there are usually a few key players:

  • You (or your representative) – tracking progress and approvals
  • Accredited service providers – designing and building the works
  • Ausgrid – reviewing designs, ensuring safety, and connecting to the network

We coordinate closely so the process runs smoothly. 

Keeping things on track

To avoid delays:

  • Engage experienced accredited providers early
  • Respond promptly to requests for information
  • Use the Connections Portal to monitor progress

If your project changes, let us know as soon as possible.
