Project overview

Ausgrid has installed new conduits and electricity cables along Macquarie, Bridge, Hunter and Bent Streets.

Over the past few years, Ausgrid has been progressively transferring electrical load away from the Dalley Street zone substation in the Sydney CBD. Dalley Street Zone Substation was first commissioned in the late 60’s, and the majority of its assets are aged and in a deteriorated condition.

To maintain a safe and reliable electricity supply in Sydney’s CBD, Ausgrid has installed new conduits and 11,000V electricity cables along Macquarie, Bridge, Hunter and Bent Streets. This will enable the supply to be transferred to one of Ausgrid’s more modern substations located at Belmore Park.

Timeline

1

Cables are beginning to be commissioned at Belmore Park Zone Substation, replacing the Dalley Street substation.

2

Early 2026

Project complete.

The benefits

Located in the northern part of the Sydney CBD, the Dalley Street zone substation currently supplies 4,924 customers, a mix of residential and commercial properties.

Transferring the electricity load from the Dalley Street zone substation to the Belmore Park zone substation will keep the electricity supply in the area safe and reliable.
