Darlinghurst Feeders 386/389
In progress.
Ausgrid is replacing two ageing underground electricity feeders in Darlinghurst to maintain a safe and reliable electricity supply for the local area.
Project overview
Ausgrid is replacing 33kV Feeders 386 and 389 within the Darlinghurst area. The existing cables are gas pressurised and have reached the end of their serviceable life. Replacing them with new underground cables will maintain the safety and reliability of the electricity supply in the area.
To install the new cables, Ausgrid will excavate a shaft to connect into the existing Sydney tunnel system. The new cables will then be installed through this underground route, minimising surface disruption in the Darlinghurst area.
Civil works are expected to commence in June 2026.
Community consultation
Ausgrid has appointed GHD to lead community and stakeholder consultation for this project. GHD will be in contact with residents, businesses and other stakeholders in the area ahead of and during the works.
You are welcome to contact us with any enquiries via phone on 1800 604 765 (free call) or by email at majorprojects@ausgrid.com.au.

What to expect during construction
We will notify residents and businesses ahead of works in your area, including details of what is planned, any expected impacts, and what we are doing to keep disruption to a minimum.
During construction you may expect:
- Excavation works and the presence of construction equipment near the shaft location, along Liverpool and Bourke streets
- Some noise and disruption, particularly during excavation — we will work to keep this to a minimum
- Temporary changes to traffic or parking near work areas
- Ausgrid and contractor vehicles in the area
