Project overview

Ausgrid reviewed options for the future replacement of the towers between Woolooware and Kurnell. Further updates shall be provided once our assessment of the project is complete.

Project need

Ausgrid plans to install two poles on either side of each transmission tower between Woolooware and Kurnell. This will enable the removal of the existing steel lattice transmission towers.

This Project involves the removal and replacement of 26 transmission towers, covering about 7 kilometres. The existing lattice steel towers are over 60 years old and are coming to the end of their serviceable life. It is no longer viable to maintain these structures.

The work will predominantly be installed within an existing Ausgrid easement. However, a section of the work will be installed on the road reserve along Captain Cook Drive.

This work is part of our capital works program, enabling Ausgrid to maintain a safe and reliable electricity network. This work is expected to be completed in stages over a two-year period.
