Award-winning fleet helps keep customers connected
With around 1,600 vehicles and 700 items of plant and equipment, Ausgrid’s fleet supports everything from routine maintenance and asset inspections through to emergency response and power restoration following severe weather.
Group Executive Property, Logistics & Governance Nigel Lowry said the award recognised the dedication of the people behind the fleet and their focus on safety and operational readiness.
“We're incredibly proud to receive this award and of what our fleet enables our crews to deliver safely for our customers every day,” Mr Lowry said.
“Our fleet stretches well beyond passenger and light commercial vehicles. It includes elevated work platforms, pole borers, prime movers, cable-handling equipment, specialist off-road assets and even boats for reaching electricity infrastructure in river communities like the Hawkesbury.
“Our crews rely on these assets to safely maintain the network, restore power after storms and keep electricity flowing to the homes, hospitals, businesses and communities that depend on us.
"This recognition reflects the commitment of our fleet team and the many operational teams who use and maintain these assets every day to ensure we're ready to respond whenever our customers and communities need us."
Head of Logistics, Fleet & EVCI Nick Black said the award recognised the challenge of managing a diverse fleet while preparing it for the future.
“Our focus is always on making sure our crews have the right equipment, in the right place, at the right time, so they can carry out their work safely and efficiently for our customers,” Mr Black said.
“We’re also demonstrating that fleet electrification can be achieved in a practical way without compromising reliability, safety or emergency response capability.
“Approximately 11 per cent of our fleet has been electrified, and we’re continuing to expand the use of electric passenger vehicles, vans and operational trucks as part of a broader transition program.”
Ausgrid’s approach to fleet electrification balances sustainability objectives with the need to maintain a resilient fleet capable of supporting essential electricity services and responding rapidly when communities need it most.
