Move a pole, or network asset

Request to move, modify or remove Ausgrid poles or network assets, including approvals, design steps and relocation requirements.

Sometimes you may need to move power poles or other Ausgrid equipment. This usually happens when you’re developing a site, renovating, or building near existing power infrastructure.

You’ll need to talk to us if you plan to:

  • Move or change a power pole, underground cable or other Ausgrid equipment
  • Build near, over or under power lines or cables
  • Change ground levels, landscaping or structures near power infrastructure

If your project is part of connecting or changing your electricity supply, follow the steps in Get connected instead.

If work goes ahead without approval and safety requirements aren’t met, you may need to fix the issue at your own cost.

Things to consider before you start

Moving Ausgrid equipment is a significant decision and can be costly.
The work may include:

  • Digging or boring underground
  • Removing and reinstalling power poles or cables
  • Restoring footpaths, roads or landscaping
  • Moving third‑party equipment, such as streetlights or telecom cables
  • Installing new power infrastructure

For larger projects, we may ask you to cover the cost of early planning or feasibility work.

How the relocation process works

Get agreement from affected parties

You’ll need written approval from:

  • Any neighbours whose power supply may be affected
  • Any organisations with equipment attached to Ausgrid infrastructure (such as telecom providers)

You’re responsible for any costs tied to moving this equipment.
