Ausgrid’s Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan outlines practical actions that support reconciliation, strengthen relationships and embed respect across our workforce and communities.
Ausgrid is proud to launch our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) for 2025–2027 — a strategic framework that deepens our commitment to reconciliation and strengthens our relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Vision for Reconciliation
Our vision for reconciliation is to build an accessible and sustainable energy industry that elevates the voices and participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, the original Custodians of this land and the energy industry.
We are committed to walking alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, deepening our understanding of their aspirations, and finding solutions together as we move through the energy transition and beyond.
Our goal is a resilient and sustainable future for all Australians.
This plan is more than a corporate document - it is a call to action. We are committed to ensuring it is a living framework that drives positive impact within our workplace and the broader community.
This RAP consolidates previous achievements, integrates lessons learnt, and sets a clear direction for future action. Developed through extensive internal consultation and guided by Reconciliation Australia, the plan reflects Ausgrid’s commitment to meaningful engagement, self-determination, and trust-building with First Nations employees and communities.
The RAP is structured around four strategic focus areas that align with Ausgrid’s business strategy and its unique opportunities to drive impact:
- Elevating cultural safety and awareness
- Economic Empowerment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses
- Increasing employment opportunities, career pathways and mentoring
- Community connection and self-determination
Community Batteries and First Nations Art
One example of our RAP in action is the Community Batteries for Household Solar Program, where sustainability meets cultural expression. In 2023, Ausgrid launched Australia’s first community battery in Cabarita, Sydney, a milestone in renewable energy and community engagement.
Through collaboration with First Nations organisations Boomalli and Yerrabingin, we invited emerging Indigenous artists to feature their work on the battery infrastructure. The first installation proudly showcases artwork by Sharon Smith, a Wiradjuri artist whose pieces explore deep connections to Country.
This initiative not only supports the transition to net zero but also creates space for storytelling, visibility, and economic opportunity for First Nations creatives.
